The Flexibility Formula for K-2nd Grades
Join in with other educators for Build Math Minds online course: The Flexibility Formula with Christina Tondevold.
"After taking this course, I am AMAZED with how many resources/experiences we now have to use. Through this course we have been able to supplement a ton and include games/experiences daily. I desire to provide them with the best experiences possible so that they grow to have a love of numbers and mathematics throughout their lives!"
Chelsea Anderson
Homeschooling Mom
"Just want to thank you for such an amazing course. What a great way to spend money! This is such a wonderful investment. I am sharing with everyone I know and I mean everyone. I feel like I have the missing piece to the math puzzle that I have been trying to solve for some time now. Thanks for that piece."
LeAnn Tisdall
1st Grade Teacher
"I love the different ways I can have students develop a strong number sense. It's awesome to see the progression of where they should start and how each concept builds on the next one."
Stefanie Berdine
2nd Grade Teacher
Flexibility with numbers is something we cannot directly teach to kids. It comes from the experiences they have with numbers and the connections they see between numbers. The Flexibility Formula helps K-2nd grade teachers learn how to help kids catch flexibility so you can build math minds and not just create calculators.
Clear & Defined Path
Most textbooks do not have number sense built into their program. You will learn the progression of number sense development AND lots of ideas to help you develop your plan of implementation.
Conceptual Understanding
It's hard to teach kids the WHY behind the math if we never learned it ourselves. Let me help you build the connections so that you have the conceptual understandings to help your students understand the WHY behind the procedures.
Love of Teaching Math
For too many educators, math is NOT their favorite subject. If that is you, this course will help you learn to LOVE teaching math.

Get These Bonuses When You Enroll
Bonus #1 - Top 10 Number Sense Activities
Don't let the name fool you...it's 10 activities for each number sense concept....that's 70 activities!!!!!
Bonus #2 - Access to Brainingcamp
In The Flexibility Formula we talk a lot about making math visual. Manipulatives are one of the best ways to do that. Whether virtual or physical, it doesn't matter, kids need to work with objects to build connections through the concrete-representation-abstract models.
So, when you enroll in The Flexibility Formula, you will get a code to access Brainingcamp's virtual manipulative platform for a year for FREE.
Bonus #3 - Access to StrADDegy
All participants in The Flexibility Formula K-2 course will get free access while enrolled in course to straddegy.com! A learning portal to help teachers as they help children develop facts that last. StrADDegy uses three important components to help kids learn their addition facts:
1) Putting the problems in context,
2) Giving kids lots of visual models, and
3) Once kids have developed the understanding, give them fun ways to practice.
The cool part is that StrADDegy has it all made for you right in their portal, so you don’t have to create a thing.
MODULE 1: UNDERSTANDING
In this module we will build our understanding of the 8 Number Sense Concepts that build students' flexibility with numbers...
MODULE 2: OBSERVING
...then we learn how to observe students to see what concepts they understand and which ones they are still building...
MODULE 3: CONNECTING
Seeing how the number sense concepts connect together and connect with other math concepts helps determine....
MODULE 4: EXPERIENCING
...the experiences you provide students to help them build their flexibility. We will discuss the types of experiences you should provide students and you will get lots that you can use right away with your students...
The Flexibility Formula K-2 provides an opportunity to learn the fundamental mathematical progressions underlying students’ understanding of numbers to build their flexibility when operating with numbers. Topics will include child cognitive development, early numeracy and number relationships, assessing students’ understanding, and providing mathematical experiences that build students’ flexibility and fluency with math in K-2nd grade.
Specifically, the course will address the following concepts:
4 Early Numeracy Concepts (Subitizing, Verbal Counting, Object Counting, and Cardinality) and the 4 Number Relationships (Spatial Relationships, One/Two More & Less, Benchmark Numbers, and Part-Part-Whole)

What is the time commitment?
The course has 4 modules. In each module there is approximately 2 hours of instructional time plus the Overview and Bonus content. In total, the course is 10 hours of instructional time. You have access to the course materials for 3 months (or 12 months) from the date the course starts. You are able to watch them at anytime once you enroll.
Can I earn CEUs or Credits?
Each state has different requirements for what they accept for CEUs or Professional Development. So, check to see what is required. I offer a certificate of completion for 15 hours OR you can take the course for professional development credit through an accredited university that we have it set up through, you just need to pay the university their $60 fee for the credit. All participants have the option to take this course for 1 Professional Development Credit (also called Continuing Ed Credits) through an accredited university. We have it set up already through the university and once the course starts you can sign up with them for the credit, you just have to pay them the $60 for the 1 credit.
Do you take Purchase Orders?
If you are an individual teacher who needs to use a PO, use this School Registration. This allows you to register as the participant and have your school billed by invoice which can be paid by check or credit card.
Is there a group discount?
For groups of 6 or more, $40/person is taken off the registration price. Email me at info@buildmathminds.com to submit a registration for 6 or more teachers. Here is more information on group pricing.
Do you have a syllabus I can show my administration?
Absolutely! For a full syllabus CLICK HERE.
What if I don't finish in 3 months?
I really want you to finish! I know life is busy...I'm a mom of 4 very active kids. Each week you can expect to spend 1- 2 hours, sometimes more, to watch videos and plan implementing what you learn. I want you to look at your schedule and see if you can commit to 2 hours a week over 4 weeks. You do have 3 months of access to complete the content, but if you don't think you'll have time, then you can register for the 12 month access of the course or there is a way to extend your course access (by becoming a paying member of Build Math Minds) after the 3 month course access ends.
