Number Sense 101 Course Registration

Want to learn how to help your kiddos 'catch' number sense?

Registration re-opens September 22

Want to change how you teach math and how your students think about math?

Are you looking for something that will help you with those kiddos who 'just don't get it'?

Do you have kiddos who have 'learned' the addition strategies, yet still revert back to using their fingers?

Are you looking for how to help your kiddos understand that 13 is not just a 1 and a 3, but actually a 10 and 3??

And do you want to do all this and make it FUN!?!?!

Then the Number Sense 101 Course is Just What You Need

"Just want to thank you for such an amazing course. What a great way to spend money! This is such a wonderful investment. I am sharing with everyone I know and I mean everyone. I feel like I have the missing piece to the math puzzle that I have been trying to solve for some time now. Thanks for that piece."

4 Quick Facts About Me

{to give you an idea of who I am & my math ed philosophy}

  • I have 4 wonderful children and I thank the Lord that he changed the way I thought about mathematics before they arrived in my life so that I could provide math experiences for them, instead of math flash cards.
  • I call myself a Recovering Traditionalist. I was a very traditional learner and teacher....give me an algorithm and I could solve it....give me any mental math or story problems and I would start sweating.
  • I believe in the power of a positive and growth mindset (for ourselves and our kiddos). Failure is often how we learn our best lessons...yet we try too hard to not let our students fail in class. Feeding them step-by-step directions on how to solve mathematics problems is NOT truly mathematics.
  • My mother was my junior high English teacher and she would probably have a heart attack if she ever read any thing I put out....well, except for the first book I published (she was my editor). I do not take the time to be grammatically correct and nothing is ever perfect {I would rather spend my time with my kids than ensure I wrote a complete sentence}.

Want to get excited again about teaching math??

Here about the course and what past participants have to say about it.

At the end of this course, you will have:

-A clearly defined progression of what number sense looks like

-Peace of Mind in knowing you are heading in the right direction

-More of a conceptual understanding of the math you teach. If you are like me, you were taught the procedural steps of math but NOT the understanding behind them.

-More time, because this course will give you pre-made games and parent letters along with lists of activities to help you build number sense for your kiddos…no more endlessly searching on Pinterest and TpT wondering if what you are finding is any good.

2 Levels of Course Involvement

Choose the best one for you

All Participants have the option to take this course for 1 Professional Development Credit (also called Continuing Ed Credits) through an accredited university. We have it set up already through the university and once the course starts you can sign up with them for the credit, you just have to pay them the $60 for the 1 credit.

Which level is right for me?

Community is best for teachers and math coaches who enjoy learning with a community. You will have access to the course forum where everyone will be talking about the content of the course, asking questons, and sharing resources.

In this level, you have the option to be assigned a Community Partner. This will be a person who is also enrolled in the course AND has the same role as you so that you can have someone to talk & collaborate with who is going through the same things as helps to know you aren't alone in the struggles you are having with your kiddos.

You also get access to the private Build Math Minds Community (not the free Facebook one) which houses all the webinars I have done with amazing math educators like Graham Fletcher, Cathy Fosnot, Dr. Nicki Newton, and so much more.

Community+ is best for math coaches who plan to use the information in the videos to provide training for their staff. You have access to the material for longer, to help you plan out how to use the information with your staff.

Plus you get mothly Q & A calls with me to flesh out any ideas/questions you have as you learn the content. Teachers who want extra support and contact with me beyond what the Community level offers also enjoy this level.

Oh, and don't forget about the Number Sense Scope & Sequence! This will show you a possible scope & sequence of the math standards for each grade level PreK-2 along with showing how each of the number concepts inside the course it into that scope & sequence.

What you’ll get out of this 8-week course:

Participants will become knowledgeable about instructional practices that build connections around number. You will learn the content, methods, and materials necessary to teach number sense. You will become familiar with assessing through observation and using children’s thinking to guide instruction. You will develop an understanding of the framework for children’s development of number sense. Overall, you will become more confident in your ability to teach mathematics.

Specifically, the course will address the following concepts:

4 Early Numeracy Concepts (Subitizing, Verbal Counting, Object Counting, and Cardinality) and the 4 Number Relationships (Spatial Relationships, One/Two More & Less, Benchmarks of 5 & 10, and Part-Part-Whole)

All eight ideas will be investigated in-depth with these lessons:

  • What it is & Why it is so important
  • Assessment Look Fors Explained
  • Experiences to provide your students that build the concept
  • Games
  • Future Impact to your students’ understanding of numbers
  • Activities and information to share with parents

Clear & Defined Path

Most textbooks do not have number sense built into their program. You will learn the progression of number sense development AND lots of ideas to help you develop your plan of implementation.

Conceptual Understanding

It's hard to teach kids the WHY behind the math if we never learned it ourselves. Let me help you buid the connections so that you have the conceptual understandings to help your students understand the WHY behind the procedures.

Love of Teaching Math

For too many educators, math is NOT their favorite subject. If that is you, this course will help you learn to LOVE teaching math.

100% Money Back Guarantee

If you go through the course and learn nothing new, I will refund the registration for the course!

You have access to the course materials for 3 months (or 6 months) from the date the course starts. You are able to watch them at anytime once the module is released.

Can I earn CEUs or Credits?

Each state has different requirements for what they accept for CEUs or Professional Development. So, check to see what is required. We offer a certificate of completion for 15 hours OR you can take the course for credit through an accredited university, you just need to pay the university their $60 fee for the credit.

Do you take Purchase Orders?

Absolutely, if you have a group of 5 or more, make sure to use this ORDER FORM and email/fax it in with PO or Credit Card information.

If you are an individual teacher who wants to use a PO. Fill out the ORDER FORM and then we will invoice your district.

Do you have a syllabus I can show my administration?

All the FREE training videos (or webinar you attended) are inside the course. PLUS we delve deeply into all 8 of the Number Sense Concepts discussed in those videos to discover why they are so important and how to implement them into your classroom. For a full syllabus CLICK HERE.
